GORGEOUS Ebony Baldwin Kawai / Howard 550 Grand Piano
$2,776.00
Additional information
Gorgeous ebony Kawai 550 Grand piano. Kawai’s 550 line was the predecessor to Kawai’s highly coveted KG2C. The piano was originally manufactured by Kawai, in Japan, in 1969. This was a decade before the wide acceptance and dominance of Kawai and Yamaha in the U.S. piano market. For this model 550, Kawai licensed the Howard name for marketing through U.S. Baldwin dealers. It is vintage Kawai throughout.
This is a Howard grand piano made to Baldwin specifications by Kawai in Japan. It has been recently tuned and serviced, fully cleaned and inspected and given a clean bill of health. It does have a bit of cosmetic wear and tear but it plays well and the sound is rich and powerful.
At 5′ 10″ this instrument is a good size for most homes with enough length to have a very satisfying bass. This piano is suitable for beginners just starting to learn or for the more advanced player.
Soo why is this piano priced so low?
3 reasons:
1.) The simple answer is real-estate, we are bursting at the seams, our 10,000 sq ft showroom is more crowded than a subway car. We NEED the room!!!
2.) We are a non-profit who’s main goal in the piano world is to save these beautiful instruments from a life of neglect or even worse, by uniting them with music lovers all over our great state
3.) It has a hairline crack in the
sound board (cue the scary music) which for the purest means unless you spend 10s of thousands to get it fully rebuilt, it is unworthy and must be shunned.
But…. for the someone who loves music and has always wanted a beautiful ebony grand piano and cares more about how it plays and sounds than anything, then have you hit the JACKPOT!!!
So yes she has a crack in the soundboard, but honestly we’re pretty used to seeing this in Colorado and as far as we’re concerned and many other piano experts we’ve talked with, as long as the structure of the soundboard remains solid, with ribs and bridges adhering correctly to the surface of the soundboard, and all strings and other fasteners attached rigidly to the frame of the piano, cracks will have very little impact on the overall tone or sound quality. She sounds beautiful, come on down and give it a test drive and see for yourself.
With proper maintenance and tuning, even a soundboard with a crack can be maintained for years
Stop by our new showroom and give the keys on this piano a friendly little tickle and check out one of Colorado’s biggest selection of affordable used pianos. We also carry a huge inventory of gently used furniture and home décor.

Like all pianos you’ll want to get it tuned after its moved but it sounds and plays well as is. I can recommend a great piano tuner if you don’t know anyone. Really nice guy and doesn’t over charge.
I can also recommend a great teacher of you’re looking for someone to give your child lessons. My daughter’s teacher is great and I’m happy to refer her to you.
Free delivery in the Denver metro area within 25 miles is included. Outside of 25 miles there is a small fee for mileage. Delivery includes moving inside and set up as well, but only on ground level. Upper or lower levels will be an additional cost.
